Ways to pay

The website uses PayPal for online payments, but you don’t have to have a PayPal account to use it; follow the checkout and choose ‘Pay by Debit or Credit Card’ and checkout as a guest if you prefer.

Alternatively you can choose to pay by BACS, simply follow the on screen instructions then you will need to use your own online banking or banking app to pay, entering your order number as the reference. Your order is not confirmed until payment is made. You will then  receive an email to confirm payment has been received: please check your junk folder.

Packaging and Recycling

Everything in a Village Gourmet hamper is either edible, compostable, biodegradable, recyclable, or reusable and wherever possible from a renewable and sustainable source; wicker, card, glass, kraft paper, string, cork, hessian, wood and a biodegradable cellophane; Natureflex™.

There is nothing made of plastic in a Village Gourmet Hamper.

We chose premium glass jars with the intention of them being reused, rather than recycled. The labels will come off with ease after a turn in the dishwasher.

We compost all our organic green waste, and many of the fresh herbs we use come directly from our own kitchen garden, (our Instagram feed often features photos from the garden).

The protective ‘wood wool’ stuffing used in transit is also compostable, either mixed in with your own, or in your green council food-waste caddy. Alternatively, it will make excellent nesting material if left out for the birds.

The recyclable card hamper can be re-gifted or used to store shoes, documents etc. It will also flat pack for easy storage.

Wine corks, should you be lucky enough to have one, make excellent ‘crocks’ in the bottom of your plant pots.

We use recyclable brown packing tape on the outer boxes and the transit stuffing is either compostable corn chips, paper ‘bubble wrap’ or recycled paper.

Gift Messages

If you would like to include a personal message with a gift hamper, please use the ‘gift message’ box on the checkout form; its the last box on the right hand side. Your message will be handwritten and sealed in an envelope, tucked inside the hamper.

Allergens

Due to the way our food is prepared it is not possible to 100% guarantee the absence of allergens in our products. All products are produced in an environment that handles nuts and sesame.

You will find allergen information listed on each product on the website, and this information is also repeated on the labelling.

Allergens are listed in bold and include; celery, cereals containing gluten, crustaceans, eggs, fish, lupin, milk, molluscs, mustard, peanuts, sesame, soybeans, sulphur dioxide and sulphites, tree nuts.

Shelf life and storage

The Village Gourmet kitchen uses traditional techniques, coupled with fresh, quality ingredients to produce small batches of handmade foods to the highest standard. The shelf life of food produced in this way, without preservatives or additives, is often less than you would expect from the supermarket equivalent.

All products are labelled with either a ‘best before’ or ‘use by’ date.
